January 27, 2026

It’s December 31, 2025, and you’re anxiously awaiting the clock to read 12:00AM.

“...5-4-3-2-1…HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!”

“This is my year,” you say to yourself, and you’re armed and ready with a vision board, a God-given word, and this year’s theme: The Year of Triumphant Breakthrough. “Breakthrough takes time, but this year I’m gonna finally see it,” is what you tell yourself, feeling reassured that you have twelve months to get it right. Plenty of time, right?!

Until December 1, 2026 inevitably sneaks up on you, and you’ve found yourself yet again questioning, “Where is my breakthrough? I thought this was my year?”

Humanity struggles with two things: waiting and time. As believers, we know that so many figures in the Bible had to wait for their breakthrough, yet we still struggle with the concept of “Not right now.” Jesus had a waiting period before He was ready to “Be about My Father’s business,” (Luke 2:49) yet the Bible doesn’t tell us what He did from age twelve to thirty because I imagine those were the years spent in preparation for His breakthrough.

What are you doing to prepare for your breakthrough? What type of environment are you building? Because it’s not just about your breakthrough, as much as the steps taken to secure and safely sustain its survival. Possibly, your social circles, daily thoughts and habits have to change in order for it to show up.

In Isaiah 45:2 God says, “I myself will prepare your way, leveling mountains and hills. I will break down bronze gates and smash their iron bars.” This means, there are mountains, hills and gates that have to be removed by God before you can safely walk towards your blessing. Simply saying you want a breakthrough, but not recognizing what is getting in the way will make a powerful word, a vision board, and a God given theme fruitless.

Twenty-twenty-six isn’t the year to remain in your routine. It’s the year to ask God to “Break down bronze gates” (Isaiah 45:2) that remain in your path. It’s the year to finally do something unnatural.

When a pilot is landing a plane there are certain measures that have to be taken for a safe and smooth landing. Managing the speed and altitude are just two components. They have to consider the wind, airport conditions and of course the aircraft performance (engine, wings, etc.) before even releasing the wheels of the plane. That’s a lot to do! But when the pilot (and co-pilot) are prepared, it’s a smooth landing. Maybe we need to take the position of co-pilot in our own story (but that’s for another blog post)

We want a smooth landing. Not one that brings added turbulence and malfunctions because a breakthrough attached to trauma isn’t sustainable. But a breakthrough in a well-prepared environment gives us the momentum to keep it alive, and ultimately give God the glory. At this point, you may be asking for practical measures, and while every situation is different, maybe this year:

  1. You will find a therapist to be vulnerable with.
  2. You will wake up early and begin your days in prayer, instead of sleeping an extra 30-minutes.
  3. You will show up for yourself by applying for a new position, asking for that raise, researching what good leadership looks like, or starting the business plan.
  4. You will write a page a day of your book or script (now I’m talking to myself)
  5. You will change your eating habits by implementing one new healthy lifestyle change a month.

The list could go on, but none of these things are the breakthrough. They are simply steps towards that big moment, and by placing “You will…” at the top of the sentence, it breathes life over the thing that has tripped you up for years.

Twenty-twenty-six is your year. It’s your year to prepare your environment for your breakthrough. And for those readers who are in your breakthrough season, continue to nurture the miracle in your environment (your marriage, that new home, and new child). When temptation tries to set you off your path, remember all that it took to arrive in this season, and fight back to keep your environment sustainable for its stay.

My Prayer

Father God,

Thank you for speaking to the mountains that have consistently been in my way year after year. I’m declaring that this year will be different. Help me to reframe my mindset, and not just focus on the things that I want, but to receive the things I need to ultimately be the version of myself that you created me to be. I want to spiritually look and feel different this year, and discover a new version of myself. In all things, I want to give You the glory. Help me when I get weary and when temptation gets in the way. Please remove the burdens that cloud my judgement in this season, as I want to live in my highest potential. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
