Did you know that you can talk to God at any time, about anything, no matter the time or place?
Sending God daily reminders of your love for Him is a great way for you to build a relationship with Him. Talking to Him only during prayer is not enough; He wants to hear from you more often than just during your designated prayer time.
Believe it or not, many of us struggle with this. We live as though access to God is limited or restricted—reserved for Sunday mornings, quiet moments, or Wednesday night prayer service, but this isn’t true. God is waiting to spend quality time with you at any moment, during any time of the day.
In today’s post, I want to share with you what establishing intimacy with God means for you, its significance for your life, and three practical ways you can begin building true intimacy with Him today.
God’s word reminds us that through Christ, we have constant access to the Father. He is not distant nor too busy for us, but invites us to come boldly and freely into His presence.
While many things can be said about intimacy with God, in a nutshell, it is simply having a relationship with Him. That relationship begins the moment you come before Him exactly as you are.
Though intimacy may sound like a fancier way of saying relationship with God, it is simply the intentional building of a relationship with Him by spending time with Him—not just any time, but genuine, quality time.
Through my own experience of establishing intimacy with God, I’ve come to learn that it has to be both intentional and sincere. God knows when you’re being real and when you’re not being authentically you. So as you go before God, go before Him with honesty, truthfulness, and authenticity because He honors that.
Establishing a relationship is key for any Christian. Without knowing God or having a relationship with Him how can one live for Him or do anything in Christ?
It is vital that you understand the importance of establishing a true connection with God. This is how you’ll connect with God, receive insight, wisdom, and guidance; even build a solid foundation in Him. In addition, you will also build your faith in God.
So making God a priority in your life by spending quality time with Him daily is important and necessary for your spiritual growth and overall walk with Christ.
There are many ways one can establish intimacy with God, but here are just a few practical ways that I’ve found to be very effective when growing closer to Him.
One of the most effective ways one can establish a genuine relationship with God is through prayer. Time spent with God in prayer is a powerful way to connect with Him and grow closer to Him. Prayer is a time for you to sit quietly, be still with God, and converse with Him, or simply just rest in His presence and listen to Him speak.
Alongside prayer, worship is another profound way to spend time with God and build a stronger, solid relationship with Him. It’s in the moments that we intentionally set aside to spend with God (when we can find a million other things to do) that trust and relationship is established.
God’s word is our spiritual nourishment which should be consumed daily. Studying and reflecting on the Word of God is a profound way to learn about God, His will, and His ways.
Discovering God through His word is another key way you will begin to grow closer to Him, aside from prayer. Learning about Him is how you’ll begin to know Him better and even learn the path and purpose He has for your life.
For how can you serve God, let alone share a relationship with Him, if you don’t know Him? So take time daily to dive into God’s enriching and living word and grow even closer to God.
Talking to God throughout your day is a tried and true way to grow closer to God. Because relationships are built on trust, communication, and quality time—this is a great way to get more intimate with the Lord and build a lasting relationship with Him.
The more you talk to God and spend time with Him, the more He will talk to you and reveal to you. Whether you’re in your car, at work, or cleaning your home–have a chat with God and even thank Him for who He is and all He’s done.
Keeping God at the forefront of your mind and talking to Him throughout the day will help you feel closer and closer to God. This is how you build true intimacy with Him. No need for long, fancy words or phrases, just be you and talk to Him about whatever is on your heart or mind.
I pray that something you’ve read today has encouraged your heart. If you’re longing for deeper intimacy with God, take one step today—whether through prayer, worship, or simply sitting quietly in His presence. He is always ready to meet you there.
